Used Car Dealers - Tricks And Deceptions

By Adriana Noton

Even though many people can afford a new car, they choose to buy a used vehicle for a variety of reasons. Some people buy used vehicles of about a year or two old; they are still in like new condition but the major portion of the depreciation has already occurred. When it's time to buy that car, they tend to shop at used car dealers.

This type of dealership has really managed to gain a tough reputation over the years. Even movies and television shows make fun of used car salespeople and portray them as stupid, lazy, or downright criminals. They also have reputations for trying to sell vehicles that should be sent to be crushed long ago. Consumers are always filing complaints about how they were allegedly done wrong at one of their local dealers.

How much of all this is true? Some. No matter how shady some of these people might be, the majority of the onus falls on the customer to understand exactly what he's buying and what he's being charged. Unless you have a dealer who is purposely committing fraud, your entire deal should be plainly outlined in the paperwork given to you sign.

If you had promises made to you, make sure they are in writing. Forget the gentleman's handshake or "don't worry about a thing, I'll take care of you" speeches. Don't sign anything unless everything you had agreed to is indeed in writing. If not, you were instrumental in causing your own problem.

One issue that keeps coming up when it comes to consumer complaints is the type of financing available for used cars. This can't always be blamed on just used car dealerships. Used cars have always had higher interest rates associated with the loans no matter how good your credit is. Why? Used cars are the ones that are defaulted on more frequently. This goes back decades when used cars were really old clunkers, and if people financed them, they would usually just die and people would stop paying for them. Even though the car industry has changed, the finance industry hasn't kept up with the times.

Another problem consumers have is that it's hard to get specific information about the cars on many lots. Some dealerships sell any car they can. They can't be expected to know everything about every car on the lot. And, these cars usually don't get turned in with the original owners manual so if you find a car you're interested in, it's up to you to learn all about it.

In these cases, do research before even making a down payment. If you have a laptop with a wireless data plan, bring it with you! Let the salesman know you are going to check out the car, the pricing, financing alternatives, and a CarFax history report.

Then, take it for a long test drive. If possible, have an auto mechanic look at the odometer and rule out tampering. This isn't limited to old cars; many new cars that were leases are still prime candidates. Some cars are turned in just because of their high mileage. Make sure you aren't buying one.

How To Find The Best Hybrid Car

By Clive Wheldon

By hybrid motor vehicle we refer to any vehicle that relies on 2 separate power sources for propulsion. Among the power sources for a hybrid car there are gasoline or diesel fuel, on-board or out-board rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS), hydrogen, wind, compressed or liquid natural gas, solar, coal, wood or other solid combustibles, etc.

The very concept of hybrid car designates electric vehicles of which adapt use of an internal combustion engine to that of the electrical batteries.

As stated before, there are other hybrid vehicles beside the hybrid car we will mainly deal with here. Just think of mopeds and electric bicycles. These are the rather basic kinds of hybrid vehicles. The combination between a gas engine or a battery and the physical power of the muscles is definitely superior.

And then there are hybrid heavy vehicles like railway locomotives, buses, heavy goods vehicles, ships or mobile hydraulic machinery. Usually, the term hybrid car-vehicle is used to refer to hybrid electric vehicles. This category consists of the next types of automotives: AHS2 (Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Silverado, Cadillac Escalade, Saturn Vue), Toyota Prius, Ford Escape Hybrid, Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight and many others. A petroleum-electric hybrid car usually gets its power from an internal combustion engine (gasoline or diesel engine) and an electric battery.

The beginnings of the hybrid car go as far back to the late 1900s when David Arthurs, an electrical engineer from Arkansas, invented the braking regenerative hybrid. Other than the combination of gas engine and electric motor, there are other propulsion sources used, but for a single engine only.

Although there's a certain similarity to a hybrid car, distinctions do exist. In fact, vehicles with double or multiple energy sources are dual mode automotive systems of the trolley type.

A hybrid car presents numerous advantages from the environmental perspective and there are two sides to consider here. First of all, you're able to do some thing for the environment and mankind, but you additionally save money on fuel.

Both of these advantages and benefits brought about by the hybrid car are tributary to at least three elements in the design: the combination of gasoline and the electric motors, a battery with plenty of storage capacity along with the chance to re-capture important amounts of energy, which are usually wasted while braking.

Vacuums - Which Is Best For You

By Adriana Noton

The first vacuums were invented over a hundred years ago. Once electricity became popular in most households, electric vacs became a must have for every housewife. These early models aren't terribly different than their descendents, either.

The newer ones are certainly more powerful, and most have HEPA filters that can be cleaned and reused rather than the old fashioned bags that were thrown up when they were full. However, many people are still not convinced that these filters are better and they continue using the vacuums with the disposable bags.

Small hand held designs that could be hung on a wall in the kitchen or pantry became popular about 40 years ago. They were perfect for quick touch ups and tiny messes involving perhaps some crumbs. They would recharge completely once hung back up again. When necessary, they had about 15 minutes of power.

New versions of carpet sweepers came next, which is a reliable form of vacuum cleaner. The first ones actually handled only hard floors but they did a great job. The next generation were the same size and shape and could handle rugs without deep piling. Smaller jobs were easy with these styles and almost every housewife ran out to buy one once they came on the market. Although not quite powerful enough yet to completely replace the larger household models, they were marvelous alternatives when it come to quick cleanups.

One popular model that has been around for years and years is the canister. These are typically lighter and easier to pull around in areas that are full of furniture and have tiny passageways. They are popular with anyone who needs to carry a vacuum up and down staircases, too. Many prefer the canisters simply because their styling comes with long hoses onto which you can put the various attachments that come with the machine.

Soon there were machines made specifically to handle particular household cleaning chores such as picking up hard to find pet hair and dander. The suction on these is more powerful, and most of the units come equipped with filters that capture the allergens, pet fur and dander which are then emptied into the trash. Attachments are made to make it easy to clean all types of furniture, carpeting, walls, draperies, furniture and even ceilings and corners.

Some of the new cordless models can hold a full charge (from 7.5 v to 15 v) for over a half hour, plenty of time to do an average home. There are many choices when it comes to styles, sizes, and even colors. Some do a better job with thick carpeting than others, and others tend to hold a charger better than some. There are models that are plugged in to recharge them, and others use a charged battery pack that is placed into the vacuum when ready to use it.

Look for models that can be taken apart. Some have the ability to turn from full size units into hand held units just by removing a small section. These come in handy in situations where you don't want to be carrying two machines around with you while you're cleaning.

Let's Go Shopping -- at Yard Sales!

In some areas they are mostly called garage sales,
or rummage sales. Sometimes they are called yard
sales. In Britain, I believe they have what they call
"car-boot" sales.

Whatever the name, it is a fun part of a frugal
lifestyle. Here are some of the ways I have found to
save money by shopping yard sales.

Expecting your first child? Yard sales can be a great
place to stock up on necessities. Everything from cribs
to rocking chairs to bumper pads, blankets and clothing
can be bought at much less than new prices.

Of course, you must use your good judgement as to safety
and cleanliness issues.

If you have small children, be on the lookout for clothes
in the next size your child will need. We all know how
quickly children outgrow their clothes!

Clothes for older children can be picked up for a song, too.

Are your older children picky about brand names?
Do what I did--I told mine to think of these clothes as
brand new, they've just already been washed a few times!

Found just the shirt or dress you need, but it has a stain
on it? Here's a pre-soak trick to try:
Dissolve 1/2 cup of dry dishwasher soap in about a gallon of
warm water. Add your garment and keep it submerged for 24
hours or up to 3 days. Do remember to test the fabric first.

Big money can be saved by buying toys and books for Christmas
and birthday gifts at yard sales. Many sales will have brand
new toys and games in the box at a greatly reduced price.
If the boxes are not sealed, always be sure to check carefully
and make sure all the pieces are included.

Toys to be repaired or refurbished are a big money-saver. Are
your children ready for a bike? You'll finds lots of outgrown
bikes at yard sales that just need a little cleaning up or maybe
a coat of paint.

If you are a reader, as I am, you can save big bucks by buying
books for next to nothing at yard sales. Even if you don't find
a book you want to read yourself, if a book is very cheap, buy it
and trade it for credit at the used bookstore!

Joke gifts for adults are another item to look for. Buying in
the spring or summer means you aren't running around in December
trying to find something suitable for that office Christmas party.

Always watch for gift wrapping supplies. Use your imagination!
Grab that partial roll of wallpaper with border to match. Wrap
a gift in the wallpaper and wrap a length of border around it;
no need for ribbon or a bow!

Sometimes, you will even find actual wrapping paper and ribbon
for sale at a yard sale. Never pass up a bargain.

Do you have a young adult going off to college next fall? Or one
moving into his first apartment? Help out by looking for small
appliances, sets of glasses, flatware, pots and pans or utensils.
Then they won't be raiding your home for whatever they need!

Does your family love to work jigsaw puzzles? New puzzles can be
pretty pricey--so just visit the yard sales. I've bought puzzles
for as little as 50 cents and very seldom have I bought one that
had any pieces missing.

"One man's trash is another man's treasure" is certainly true at
yard sales. Some people just do not have the imagination to
see the many uses of different items. Money-saving opportunities
abound for those who are able to see potential in unlikely
objects.

Grocery Shopping With Kids In Tow

Is your weekly shopping trip with the kids an absolute chore, or are you happy to take them along?

Lots of moms don't have any choice in the matter, and if they don't own a car, it can be sheer agony waiting at bus stops then struggling on and off buses with kids and a stroller.

Gone are the days when a helping hand was offered, and if the bus is full, not many gallant young men will jump up and offer his seat to the stressed young mom.

Next step is the supermarket, a haven of joy to the youngsters. Low shelves full of goodies, long aisles, fantastic for kids to run up and down creating havoc. Even the most well behaved child can't resist this playground.

How often do you get home and find a few extras in your shopping bags that you hadn't noticed going through the checkout, usually things that you might never use, or of course the odd bar of chocolate or packet of sweets. If you are on a budget, this can be very annoying for obvious reasons.

Have you noticed how many supermarkets have these automated bob the builder cars and other amusements for kids? It’s a tug of war most times to drag them away from these change sucking devices. Kids end up crying and you end up feeling guilty. Heck of a combination.

Many large supermarkets have a playroom, BUT if you have two or three kids the cost may be out of reach or senseless. Wouldn't it be great if they could forget about making money for a while and provide these services for free? Imagine how their sales would soar if moms and dads knew they could shop and leave the kids well protected in the store at no extra cost. Other stores would have to follow suit, and quick.

Do those big executives sit back and rake in money realize that it is families that are the main source of that money? If they just gave a thought to the harassed moms and dads, and a thought to what it would mean to them to have somewhere free to park their children while shopping? How much more tolerable shopping would be for everyone.

Imagine if they chose just a couple days a week to provide that service. What a benefit to the Parents. Is anyone listening out there?

Bliss is defined as happy parents and happy kids.
